Title
Immunoassay using antibodies directed to the reaction product of enzymes used as labels
Case Number
446
Abstract
Name of the inventor: Bernard F. Erlanger Ph.D.
An antibody which specifically binds to the product of a reaction between a labeling substance/a substrate and an associated immunoassay is described.
The antibody may be monoclonal/polyclonal and the labeling substance could be an enzyme such as peroxidase, alkaline phosphatase or galactosidase. Methods of producing an immunogen for use in production of the antibody and for detecting an antigen in a sample are provided.
The immunoassay exhibits enhanced sensitivity providing for the low level detection of molecules. The invention allows for the use of smaller amounts of antibodies directed to a target antigen, which antibodies may be in short supply or may be prohibitively expensive. The immunoassay also provides an alternative to the polymerase chain reaction for detection of nucleic acids.
