Technology Information
Title
Analogs of terpene trilactones from Ginkgo Biloba and related compounds and uses thereof
Case Number
M04-037
Abstract
Name of the inventor: Koji Nakanishi
Preparation of compounds from Ginkgo Biloba (Maidenhair tree) and its use in the detection/identification of a receptor for treating neurodegenerative diseases are described.
A process for the synthesis of a pharmaceutical composition includes mixing a compound obtained from Ginkgo Biloba with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. The activation of the platelet-activating factor receptor (PAFR) or other receptors can be inhibited by contacting it with the synthesized compound.
The pharmaceutical composition may be valuable in the treatment of PAF-associated conditions, Alzheimer's disease, senile dementia, stroke, nerve cell damage due to ischemia, asthma, abnormal blood clot formation, endotoxic shock, myocardial ischemia or hyperacute rejection arising from post-renal transplant or xenoperfusionase.
